Dr. Jackie Gerstein, LPCC, earned her Doctorate of Education from Northern Illinois University, a CACREP-accredited program, a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Northern Colorado, and a Bachelor of Science in Individual and Family Studies from Pennsylvania State University. 听
听She has been teaching undergraduate and graduate courses within counseling and education programs for several decades. Her background includes a strong focus on experiential and adventure learning which she brings into her teaching practices.
听Gerstein began her counseling career facilitating experiential and adventure therapy experiences for at-risk and adjudicated youth from group homes and residential treatment centers, and later, psychiatric hospitals. She then switched her focus to working with pre-service and in-service teachers as she believes they are often the first responders for troubled children and youth. Her teacher education instruction includes strategies for developing social-emotional skills in student and for using trauma informed practices. Currently, she also teaches gifted elementary students at Title 1 schools in Santa Fe with a goal of providing them with experiences for better navigating their lives. 听
She is the author of several books including:听Sticking Together:听Experiential Activities for Family Counseling and Metaphors for Living: Stories & Related Experiential Exercises for Individual, Group & Family Growth.
