Juan Blea, M.Ed., is a licensed addictions counselor and author interested in all forms of treatment, but music, music therapy, and reflective journaling are the tops. 聽In his spare time, he enjoys researching ways technology can be an active aid in the recovery process.聽
When he was twelve, he discovered that writing provided a means by which he could utilize language to merge his thoughts and feelings in the most expressive manner. 聽Soon, he聽wrote and self-published his first novella, Under the Same Sky.
Five years later, his first novel, (Western Edge Press, 2006), was released.聽 Since then, my work has appeared in a number of journals, most notably in Chicken Soup for the Latino Soul.
In November of 2013, 聽he released his own story of overcoming depression: Journey to Aztlan.
Too often, people either forget or never knew the power of their own respective stories. 聽He believes that people need to step back and look at their strength in simply surviving, and that their own lives are the source of the strength needed to rise up against the waves of oppression we often cause for ourselves. 聽 He call this source 鈥淎ztlan,鈥 after the mythical homeland of the Chicano people.
He believes that people want healthy lives, they just sometimes don鈥檛 know how to achieve that health, especially if they suffer from depression, anxiety, and/or addiction. 聽 His mission is to teach people that they can have a healthy life. Mr. Blea lives and works in Santa Fe, NM.
