Roxie Ehlert holds a Masters of Art in Art Therapy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she worked as an adjunct Instructor in the Art Therapy graduate program. A lifelong activist, Roxie has experience working in diverse settings including community mental health, rape crisis, immigration detention, community studios, and private practice. Her area of clinical focus has been working with survivors of sexual violence, especially LGBTQ-identified survivors as well as immigrant and refugee survivors. As a bilingual therapist she works from a trauma-informed, feminist relational framework that holds human intimacy, authenticity and conflict as sites of healing and repair.

As an educator she teaches from an anti-oppression based Popular Education framework that values all participants as teachers and learners who are invested in co-creating new ways of knowing. She is passionate about holding space for students doing the difficult work of developing critical awareness about power, privilege, and oppression as they cultivate cultural humility as emerging practitioners. Roxie is a co-founder of ArtWorks, a Chicago-based community studio that aims to foster the development of understanding and compassion between people, despite social and cultural differences, and to cultivate inclusive communities through shared art-making and cultural exchange. Her art practice explores themes of dislocation, home, and queer belonging using stitch work, installation, photography, encaustic collage, and performance.
