Scott Van Note, MA, MAEC, LMHC

Scott received his MA in Counseling from ����Vlog and his BA in Philosophy from the University of Maryland.�� Scott also holds an MA in Eastern Classics from St. John’s College, where he delved deeply into the �ճ���������岹 Buddhist tradition, receiving the Honors Distinction for his thesis, “Loving ‘Like the Moon, Drawing Back the Body and Mind’: Searching for Compassion and the Brahmaviharas Within the Buddha’s Call for Abandonment.”

Scott is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in private practice in Santa Fe, New Mexico, working on a sliding-scale with a broad spectrum of clients.�� He previously worked for several years in an intensive outpatient program in Albuquerque, treating substance abuse issues, PTSD, and co-occurring disorders, while facilitating weekly anger management and relapse prevention groups.�� He has trained extensively for over six years in AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) as well as in IFS (Internal Family Systems).�� Both AEDP and IFS models are trauma-informed and experiential models of therapy that engage the somatic and imaginal experience of clients, to be relationally processed and integrated.�� Scott’s practice incorporates AEDP alongside the parts work of IFS, engaging the whole person as well as the inner-child of clients, on pathways towards catharsis, reunion, and integration.�� Currently, Scott is also completing the MAPS training (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies), to become a provider of MDMA-assisted therapy, for the treatment of complex PTSD and other treatment-resistant conditions.

Previously, Scott worked as a high school teacher with “twice-exceptional” students, who presented with learning difficulties alongside intellectual and creative giftedness. In that role, he employed mindfulness practices to regulate emotion and hyperactivity, while fostering focus and well-being. Scott has also co-facilitated transformational experiential and relational processes in group retreats with Gender Equity and Reconciliation International, unpacking patriarchal conditioning around gender, power, and sexuality.�� More recently, he has assisted in facilitating therapist learning through experiential exercises in AEDP’s Essential Skills trainings online and in-person across the country.�� Lastly, Scott is an avid trail runner and dancer, and relishes time spent outdoors with his partner, two dogs and two cats.
